Traces of Memory

A School Dance Project

Contemporary compositions may well seem somewhat abstract at times – so choreographic co- and recreation can make access easier and provoke intense listening. For many years, students of Corinna Vogel, a professor of music and dance education, have successfully accompanied school dance projects in which young people devise their own choreographies to new music, performed live at the piano by students of Prof. Dr. Florence Millet. This time, students from the Gesamtschule Wasseramselweg artistically explore compositions with a special connection to the Festival’s theme, »Music Amnesia Memory«: some are by György Kurtág, who also transcribed works by Johann Sebastian Bach. His own piano pieces are often »homages«, for example to musician friends or composers of earlier times. The programme also features Alberto Posadas’ »Anklänge an ‚La cathédrale engloutie‘« – in his cycle »Erinnerungsspuren« (Traces of Memory) the Spaniard enters into a dialogue with famous piano works of the past. Brief piano pieces by Morton Feldman round out the programme.
