The Wave Quartet

Marimba virtuoso Christoph Sietzen and his colleagues from the Wave Quartet have created an astonishing new interpretation: they present Modest Mussorgsky's »Bilder einer Ausstellung« (Pictures at an Exhibition) in a colourful arrangement for four marimbas, virtuosic and with a new sound.

Under the mallets of the Wave Quartet, the marimba is celebrating a triumphant march through concert halls. »We have so many possibilities; the instrument is truly a chameleon, you can change it in every direction,« says Bogdan Bacanu, former teacher of multi-percussionist Christoph Sietzen, who thrilled Cologne audiences last season as a portrait artist. In the Wave Quartet, they whirl their mallets together, but also elicit sounds of great delicacy from the marimba. Mussorgsky's famous »Bilder einer Ausstellung« thus offers some real surprises.
