Nino Haratischwili: Sacred Monsters

From myth to the present day – an in-depth reflection on violence and social structures
"Sacred Monsters" is a theatrical and musical exploration of the myth of Medea, which also includes historical female figures who are all united by the unforgivable taboo of infanticide.
The play is an attempt to address the systemic violence in which humanity seems to be caught in a spiral. The victim-perpetrator relationship can be found in every social aspect of life, and politics often continues in the private sphere. The dominance of one nation over another is reflected in the dominance of one gender over the other, as well as in the desire of one group to marginalise another. This creates a vicious circle from which the oppressed believe they can only escape through violence. Ultimately, any revolt leads to a reversal of power structures, but never to their abolition.
