Vater und Sohn

There are several successful father-son relationships in music history. Just think of the Bach dynasty. In the case of the Mozarts, however, things were different. Franz Xaver, who was born five months before Wolfgang Amadeus's death, suffered from a father complex throughout his life. Nevertheless, his small oeuvre is definitely worth listening to, as the Freiburger Barock Orchester with Kristian Bezuidenhout demonstrates. The vocal parts are performed by the famous father-son duo Christoph and Julian Prégardien.

Vocal and instrumental works by the Mozarts are alternated. Kristian Bezuidenhout, a fortepiano specialist celebrated for his Mozart interpretations, plays a piano concerto by Franz Xaver Mozart and also conducts his father's famous »Haffner-Sinfonie«. Tenors Christoph and Julian Prégardien present arias, songs, and recitatives by both Mozarts, including excerpts from Wolfgang Amadeus's opera »Idomeneo«.
