Rising Stars: Javus Quartett

With flawless technique and an enormous range of dynamics and timbre, the relatively new Javus Quartet offers the finest listening pleasure in the ‘premier league of chamber music’. Their playing is fresh and full of energy, yet at the same time astonishingly mature in their ensemble playing.

With Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8, the four musicians have included a deeply moving work on the programme: written as a personal requiem during a time of great fear of persecution by the Soviet regime, whilst Grażyna Bacewicz’s Third String Quartet offers a wonderful opportunity to rediscover the most important Polish composer of the 20th century. Incidentally, the ensemble’s name plays on the word ‘Juvavum’, the Latin name for Salzburg, where the quartet was founded.
