Guillou, Liszt, Dupré: Masterpieces on organ and piano
For Slovak organist, pianist and composer Zuzana Ferjenčiková, Jean Guillou was the most influential musical personality. This luminary of the French organ scene organised musical encounters at the Saint-Eustache church in Paris. These included his composition series »Colloques«, for which he wrote duets for organ and piano, among other instruments. Zuzana Ferjencikova plays two of these »Colloques« together with pianist Anna Tsybuleva. Ferjencikova also pays tribute to the important arranger Jean Guillou with a piece by Liszt.
Zuzana Ferjencikova has selected one of Guillou's most famous organ transcriptions. It is Liszt's symphonic poem »Orpheus«, which Guillou brilliantly arranged for keyboard and pedals in 1976. The Frenchman Marcel Dupré was no less spectacular in his arrangements for the organ. This is true even of his version of the »Variations symphoniques« penned by César Franck, a native of Liège, for which Dupré combined the organ with the piano.
