Schubert: Sinfonie Nr. 5

Inspired by Mozart: Schubert’s youthful masterpiece, brimming with bold harmonies and playful lightness
More than just a youthful work: Schubert was not yet 20 years old when he conjured up his Fifth Symphony on sheet music. It reveals the maturing composer in the best of experimental spirits.
Admittedly, his role models Haydn and, above all, the »immortal Mozart«, as Schubert raved in his diary, still stand out. But beneath the surface of this symphony, which is only light at first glance, he confidently goes his own way with bold harmonies and subtle transitions. Before that, the musicians of the Camerata Salzburg, masters of chamber music ensemble playing, perform »Das verschobene Haus« (The Moved House) by Fazıl Say, who himself takes on the piano solo part. In this »Hommage à Atatürk«, the founder of modern Turkey, he moves his house to save the life of a plane tree.
