A recital in the footsteps of a great soprano: the legend Schröder-Devrient
»She is a formidable woman – my ideal in art«, Clara Schumann enthused about Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient, who was considered the greatest German opera singer of the 19th century. Sarah Wegener, Götz Payer and Anno Mungen present a colourful recital in the footsteps of the legendary singer.
Wilhelmine Schröder-Devrient sang the premiere of Schumann's cycle »Frauenliebe und Leben« (A Woman's Love and Life) at a private soirée and remained friends with Clara Schumann throughout her life. Who was this woman who was so admired by her contemporaries? Wilhelmine is brought to life in songs and readings, thanks to Sarah Wegener, highly regarded for her »wonderfully luminous, powerful and colourful voice« (FAZ), thanks to her excellent piano partner Götz Payer and thanks to the explanations of theatre scholar Anno Mungen.
