Rising Stars: Maat Saxophone Quartet

When Hildegard von Bingen, the great mystic of the Middle Ages, composed her music, the saxophone did not yet exist. But that doesn't matter, because the four saxophones, whose sound blends so wonderfully together, can take on very different roles and are at home in many genres.

For example, in pop music, which is represented in the Maat Saxophone Quartet's programme with Paul McCartney's »Blackbird«. Or in jazz, represented by the American composer George Gershwin, who skilfully mixes different styles in his works. But the saxophone quartet can also follow in the footsteps of its older brother, the string quartet, in a very classical way. With Henriette Bosmans, the four musicians also commemorate a dazzling artist who has been largely forgotten today. Finally, the new work by Aleksandra Vrebalov is an original for saxophone quartet, with which the Rising Stars are also expanding the repertoire for their ensemble.
