Rising Stars: Camila Mandillo & Filipe Gaio Pereira

»Transfigurations«
A woman (Camila Mandillo) lies on stage, wearing dark clothing, with an intense expression and red lipstick. The lighting is blue.

Of Life and Death – Songs of Transformation

When Camila Mandillo made her debut at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, she was just in her early twenties. Contemporary music was on the programme at the time, one of her specialities. Another is cleverly conceived recitals. Her Rising Stars' concert tells a moving story of transformation, transfiguration and metamorphosis.

With the »Trois Mélodies«, which Olivier Messiaen composed after the loss of his mother, or the iridescent »Chants de terre et de ciel«, which ultimately deal with life, death and resurrection. In between, Strauss sings of the loss of a lover with lush, blossoming melodies. And like all Rising Stars, the Portuguese soprano also performs a work commissioned especially for her. It was written by the British-Lebanese composer Bushra El-Turk. You will find out what it is about at the concert.

Rising Stars is a project of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO). Camila Mandillo was nominated by the Gulbenkian Foundation, Bozar Brussels, and Casa da Música Porto.
