New Year's Eve concert

Vocal fireworks and the sounds of the Viennese waltz: there’s much to enjoy in the New Year’s Eve concert, including a snowman brought to life, late-Romantic delight in triple time, breathtaking vocal acrobatics and a dash of post-Christmas festivity.

When Erich Wolfgang Korngold wrote the music for »The Snowman«, he was just eleven years old – and landed a real hit. Much like Strauss with his opera »Der Rosenkavalier«, whose finest melodies he compiled into a suite in which the famous waltzes are, of course, a must. Reinhold Glière then sets off a spectacularly virtuosic fireworks display in his »Concerto for Coloratura Soprano«, before the year draws to a close with the enchanting music from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker.
