Neapolitan Baroque: Andreas Scholl & the Accademia Bizantina touch the heart and the ear

The figure of the Virgin Mary inspired a wealth of sacred and secular works in Italian Baroque music. Countertenor Andreas Scholl, together with his friends from the Accademia Bizantina ensemble, has selected moving Marian songs from this repertoire that get under your skin.

‘Neapolitan music has a unique melodic vein and a great ability to convey emotions,’ says Alessandro Tampieri, concertmaster of the Accademia Bizantina and violin soloist alongside Andreas Scholl. Vivaldi's famous ‘Stabat Mater’ is performed alongside rarely heard pieces by Nicola Porpora and Leonardo Vinci – a moving programme.
