Fazıl Say & Serenad Bağcan

Fazıl Say and Serenad Bağcan explore the magic of modern Turkish music together.
In 2009, they met by chance during a performance of his oratorio »Nazim«: piano virtuoso and composer Fazıl Say and mezzo-soprano Serenad Bağcan. Fazıl Say knew immediately:»I have found the voice I have been searching for for years!«
Say composed the song cycle »İlk şarkılar« for this Turkish »nightingale«, which reached number one in the Turkish pop charts. Fazıl Say set to music texts by poets who have shaped modern Turkish literature. These include Cemal Süreya, Metin Altiok and Nâzım Hikmet. With her magical voice and captivating charisma, Serenad Bağcan proves herself to be Fazıl Say's musical soulmate in live performances. Before that, he invites listeners on musical journeys through the West-Eastern sound cosmos in his piano works, such as the famous »Black Earth«.
