From Field to Beethoven: Night music full of grace and surprising beauty
Alice Sara Ott opens up a distinctive but largely forgotten chapter of piano music to the public: “They touch me deeply with their beauty and grace,” says Ott about John Field's “Nocturnes.”
It was the perfect music for its time: intimate, ethereal, short, modern. But only for its time? Doesn't it fit wonderfully into our present day? In the early 19th century, Irish composer John Field conquered Europe with a new genre: his Nocturnes inspired not only the more famous Frédéric Chopin. Fortunately, pianist Alice Sara Ott has discovered these musical gems for herself and will present the Nocturnes in this concert, paired with three sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven.
