Viennese Musical Dreams: Strauss’s »Der Rosenkavalier« meets Erich Wolfgang Korngold
Endless revelry – the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra brings golden musical greetings from its homeland. Lorenzo Viotti, a charming charismatic figure, conducts two masterpieces in the reflection of the former imperial city: lively, cheerful and dreamy.
Richard Strauss's Der Rosenkavalier takes us to Vienna around 1740, finding sounds that hover delicately between nostalgia and avant-garde – bold, late Romantic, waltz-like. The correspondingly effective orchestral suite summarises the most beautiful moments. Incidentally, Strauss admired the sparkling and enchanting Sinfonietta in all its colours by his fellow composer Erich Wolfgang Korngold.. Both works now unfold in all their splendour with the Vienna Philharmonic under Lorenzo Viotti.
