Messiaen: Turangalîla-Symphonie

Turangalîla – Messiaen’s musical hymn to love and creation
Unrestrained sensuality, colourful orchestral splendour and brilliant rhythms – this palette alone makes Olivier Messiaen's Turangalîla Symphony a unique sound and concert experience. Messiaen wrote this musical hymn to creation and love in 1948.
The elaborate opus magnum now shines in the most magnificent timbres, thanks in part to Messiaen specialists Ingo Metzmacher and Pierre-Laurent Aimard. With the Turangalîla Symphony, which was premiered by Leonard Bernstein in 1949, Messiaen broke all boundaries in terms of instrumentation: it features a huge percussion battery as well as solo piano and even an ondes Martenot, which conjures up wonderfully surreal soundscapes with its electronic tones. This music is intoxicating!
