Marie Jacquot – Sommernachtsträume

Weightless ghostly dances and sparkling joy come together in Felix Mendelssohn’s »A Midsummer Night’s Dream«, the incidental music he composed in 1843 for Shakespeare’s comedy of the same name. In it, young people lose themselves in a fairy world and experience a whirlwind of emotional confusion. The same subject had inspired British composer Henry Purcell 150 years earlier to write his stage work »The Fairy Queen«, which also radiates heartwarming charm. Through this enchanted midsummer forest, future WDR chief conductor Marie Jacquot will also lead the musical mythical creatures of Norwegian composer Kristine Tjøgersen.
