»Longing to tell – a blues opera«

From hip hop to classical music: Akua Naru and Ensemble Resonanz explore love, loss and tenderness.
A team of award-winning artists has teamed up with the Ensemble Resonanz to create a moving evening about Black female intimacy – for fans of hip-hop, jazz and classical music alike.
Akua Naru, an American musician, scholar and activist, has become an influential artist as a professor of hip-hop and a musician with six albums to her name. On her latest album, »all about love: new visions«, Akua Naru collaborated with the Hamburg-based Ensemble Resonanz, with whom she is now creating a production for the big stage. The starting point is the 2003 book »Longing To Tell: Black Women Talk About Sexuality and Intimacy« by American sociologist Trisha Rose, which brings together 21 stories by Black women. These are stories of love and loss, tenderness and violence, intimacy and community, which are now being brought to the stage by Akua Naru, Tyshawn Sorey and the Ensemble Resonanz.
A co-production by Ensemble Resonanz, International Summer Festival Kampnagel Hamburg, Wien Modern, KölnMusik and Brown University Providence Rhode Island.
Developed as part of the Körber Resonanz Laborators, a collaboration between Ensemble Resonanz and the Körber Stiftung.
Supported by the Kulturstiftung des Bundes and the Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
With the support of the Körber Foundation and the ZEIT STIFTUNG BUCERIUS.
Supported by the Kunststiftung NRW
