»HEROES« is based on a list of 100 books published by David Bowie himself that had a special influence on his life and music. From Homer's »Iliad« to Dante's »Inferno«, from classics of world literature and cultural studies writings on soul and funk to the Berlin novels »Berlin Alexanderplatz« by Alfred Döblin and »Reflections on Christa T.« by Christa Wolf: David Bowie's hitherto little-known literary cosmos opens up a new perspective on his musical work. Alexander Scheer and his band follow these traces and weave the texts with Bowie's songs, opening windows and drawing connections.
