Bamberger Symphoniker

Beethoven: Symphonies
The triumphant chorus of Schiller’s Ode to Joy set to music in the final movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony not only provides a glorious finish to the last of his symphonies but is also regarded as a climax in the history of music.
2027 is the year we celebrate the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death and a perfect opportunity to focus fully on his symphonic works, which is exactly what the Bamberger Symphoniker have decided to do. Together with chief conductor Jakub Hrůša, the orchestra is commemorating this grand occasion with a Beethoven marathon that involves playing all his symphonies in a series of concerts at the Tonhalle Düsseldorf and the Kölner Philharmonie. At the end of the Ninth, when this exceptional composer juxtaposes exuberance and joy with profoundness and grandeur, Hrůša is well aware that there is no one better to walk this musical tightrope with than his trusted »Bamberger«. The native Czech feels very much at home conducting this »true gem amongst the European orchestras«.
