Bach: Matthäus-Passion

Bach's masterpiece with dramatic power and historical precision
The Matthäus-Passion (St Matthew Passion) is Johann Sebastian Bach's most extensive work and the one with the largest ensemble. As an experienced Bach expert, Philippe Herreweghe offers an impressive interpretation of this timeless masterpiece with his special ensemble Collegium Vocale Gent and a hand-picked group of singers.
Monumental, dramatic and with a powerful effect thanks to the double arrangement of choir and orchestra, the Matthäus-Passion represents the pinnacle of Bach's compositional art. Flemish conductor Philippe Herreweghe, a pioneer of historical performance practice, is more familiar with this work than anyone else, yet he discovers something new in Bach's universe with every performance. With an ideal cast of soloists and his own ensemble, Collegium Vocale Gent, Herreweghe can draw on his full repertoire for this performance.
