Portrait Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra

Aurel Dawidiuk is enviably gifted in two areas. In 2024, he was elected first assistant conductor of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Parallel to his conducting career, the Hanover-born musician is equally successful in pursuing his passion for the organ. In 2022, for example, he was the overall winner of the Deutschen Musikwettbewerb in the organ category. His debut on the Klais organ at the Kölner Philharmonie revolves around Johann Sebastian Bach and his prominent admirers such as Franz Liszt and Maurice Duruflé.

The opening piece of his recital is well known: Bach's brilliant double pair Toccata & Fugue in D minor. The Bach programme that follows includes a homage penned by the contemporary Hungarian composer Zsigmond Szathmáry, followed by his compatriot Franz Liszt with his famous »B-A-C-H«-reflection, as well as showpieces from the French Bach repertoire. These include choral arrangements by Maurice Duruflé and a powerful organ chorale by César Franck.
