20 Jahre Pablo Held Trio

No introduction is really necessary in Cologne. The dynamic jazz pianist Pablo Held is involved in a wide range of musical activities on the independent scene, including the musicians' collective KLAENG, which has already performed at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall. His trio's speciality is providing congenial accompaniment for soloists. 

Clearly inspired by the praise the three musicians have received from critics so far, listeners can witness what goes on between the members of an improvising group: ‘Composed improvisation, and improvisations that sound like compositions’ (Held). The trio undoubtedly succeeds in this, especially when they face new challenges from outside: the young tenor saxophonist Emilio Modeste surprises with his incredibly lyrical tone and feels committed to the legacy of the legendary Wayne Shorter. Incidentally, the Pablo Held Trio will have been in existence for exactly 20 years on the evening of the concert. And 40 years ago, the Cologne Philharmonic Hall hosted its first concert with Mahler's 8th Symphony – if that's not a reason to celebrate!
