Novoflot is an independent opera company based in Berlin, founded in 2002 by musician and director Sven Holm, among others. To mark the 150th anniversary of Arnold Schönberg's birth and the expiry of the copyright on his work, Novoflot is celebrating the composer in Cologne at the beginning of October with »Die Harmonielehre« (The Theory of Harmony).
In the podcast, Christoph Vratz talks about Holm's personal motivation for turning to the theatre stage, which the trumpeter and pianist sees as an ideal extension of the musical space. The current programme focuses on the challenges of making Schönberg accessible to a wider audience and on Holm's fruitful collaboration with Max Czollek in three projects, which, following evenings at the WDR Funkhaus am Wallrafplatz and the Wallraf-Richartz Museum, will conclude with a Schönberg opera gala on 8 October at the Kölner Philharmonie.
