As one of the leading pianists of his generation, the American Tzimon Barto enraptures fans on both sides of the Atlantic not only with unusual and spellbinding concerts. His CDs regularly earn highest marks. Thus, the venerable English magazine Gramophone chose his version of Liszt’s Paganini Etudes as the best “modern” recording of this work in 2014. The former Karajan protégé combines this spectacular homage to Paganini with the no less demanding Paganini reverence by Brahms. And because Barto always has a heart for contemporary music, he has placed a work by the American composer Lowell Liebermann on his recital programme. This marks the Cologne debut of one of the most frequently-performed contemporary American composers, whose works are often coloured by late romantic hues.
