Together with the Ensemble Resonanz from Hamburg, the American violinist Benjamin Beilmann, a protégé of Christian Tetzlaff, presents a programme honouring the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein. It is devoted to mythological fables of love, intoxication and the creative drive: Bernstein’s Serenade for Solo Violin and Chamber Orchestra was inspired by Plato’s praise of the god Eros. In his ballet, Stravinsky celebrates Apollo as the god of music; and at the peak of his symphonic creativity, Mozart dedicated his final symphony to the supreme god Jupiter.
