Oratorienchor Köln

The Cologne Oratorienchor celebrates its 70th anniversary with the Italian verve of Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Britten's festive »Welcome Ode«, and Beethoven's famous »Choral Fantasy«.

The main work of this lively anniversary matinee is a brilliant early work by Giacomo Puccini, an exciting mixture of church and opera styles, the Messa di Gloria, which he completed at the age of just 22. Benjamin Britten's »Welcome Ode« was composed for the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977 and is his last completed work. With Beethoven's »Choral Fantasy«, sometimes referred to as »the little sister of the Ninth«, we also commemorate the 200th anniversary of his death in 2027.
