Bruckner | Gander

Bernhard Gander’s elves have nothing to do with your standard-issue fairies: they’re not just gentle ethereal beings, but also evil powerhouses glorying in Heavy Metal, celebrating orgies on the volcano of the Apocalypse, wearing leather and rivets. In this work commissioned by the Gürzenich Orchestra, Gander drives the musicians through a world of metric and rhythmic excess, delving into unfettered sonic lust and posing mysterious, dark riddles. Another mystery is Anton Bruckner’s Sixth Symphony, flooding the space with muted colour despite its bright key signature, building huge arcs and seeking the gate to infinity in the slow movement. All this despite the composer’s own description of this symphony as his »perkiest«. Another step towards François-Xavier Roth’s completion of the complete performance and recording of all Bruckner Symphonies.

Das Konzert wird vom WDR für den Hörfunk aufgezeichnet und kann am 29. Mai im Radio und anschließend für 30 Tage auf wdr3.de nachgehört werden.
