Homecoming – Saraste & Mahler

Jukka-Pekka Saraste returns to his former place of work and once again lends his unmistakable signature to the WDR Sinfonieorchester. He focuses on Gustav Mahler's Ninth – a masterpiece that symbolises both farewell and departure at the end of the Romantic era. The music awakens as if from a heavy dream and, after eruptive outbursts, culminates in one of the most moving final movements ever written. Thomas Adès' violin concerto »Concentric Paths« is similarly visionary: the violin explores a sonic universe along winding paths, driven, groping and in dazzling dialogue with the orchestra.
