Gurdjieff Ensemble

For a long time, the Armenian Georges Gurdjieff was known to many only for his spiritual teachings. Yet he left behind a wonderful body of music, influenced by his travels through the Middle East and Central Asia. Since 2012, the award-winning Gurdjieff Ensemble has been dedicating itself to this often mysterious musical world using traditional instruments – thereby tracing Gurdjieff’s music back to its ethnic sources of inspiration.
»Gurdjieff’s work features melodies from Armenia, Greece, Arabia and Syria, and I try to bring these back through my arrangements«, says ensemble director Levon Eskenian of his arrangements. In the new Gurdjieff tribute ‘Gorani’, too, all the folk songs, sacred hymns and dances resound on those plucked, wind and percussion instruments – such as the oud, duduk and dap – that once filled Gurdjieff with wonder.
