Summit assault – An Alpine Symphony

An evening of two mountaineers! Franz Schreker's »Prelude to a Drama« was written in the context of his opera »Die Gezeichneten« and unfolds the glowing soundscapes of late Viennese Romanticism, while his Bavarian contemporary Richard Strauss ignites a veritable fireworks display of notes in his Burlesque for piano and orchestra. As the highlight, British conductor Edward Gardner leads Strauss' monumental »Alpine Symphony« on a tour de force through rugged mountain landscapes – from the first light of dawn to the quiet descent into the dark night.
