Portrait of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra: String Quartet
»Powerful and intense« – this is how the international press describes the playing of the Amsterdam-based Alma Quartet, whose members are all from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. This evening also demonstrates that the ensemble is always ready to break new ground.
They are considered adventurous and are not afraid to put unconventional ideas into practice. They perform in packed clubs and alongside top DJs. World premieres are also part of the Alma Quartet's core business. These include the new work »Alma« by the young American composer Samuel Adams, son of the famous John Adams. The two string quartets by Samuel Barber and Erich Wolfgang Korngold are among the more hidden treasures of the repertoire.
