Yellowjackets & WDR Big Band – Looking Back and Ahead

Since the 1990s, they have repeatedly shared the stage: the American jazz fusion group Yellowjackets and the WDR Big Band. The connecting element is Bob Mintzer, who brings the two ensembles together in his dual role as saxophonist for the Yellowjackets and director of the WDR Big Band. As an expert in both worlds, his arrangements create a shared sound in which the characteristic groove of the Yellowjackets' compositions is enhanced by the tonal diversity and dynamics of a large jazz orchestra.

The new live programme of this special collaboration is both a review of the Yellowjackets' early work and a preview of things to come: a follow-up to the joint album »Jackets XL«, released five years ago, is in the works.
