WDR Happy Hour – Heldenleben

WDR Sinfonieorchester | Eva Ollikainen | Jan Malte Andresen: Strauss
Richard Strauss achieved a truly ecstatic tone poem with »Ein Heldenleben« (A heroic life). In it, the 34-year-old promptly declared himself a hero – the music sounds self-confident and aggressive. For in this symphonic epic, the hero battles his »opponents«. This referred to all those who rejected Strauss's highly romantic art. His work creates intoxicating imagery full of love melodies and daring adventures. Every instrument on the podium is called upon in this passionate plea for artistic freedom.
