Symphony No. 7: Beethoven’s Ecstasy

Beethoven | Haydn | Mozart
»Music is our sublime playground for the tensions between our temperaments, needs and worldviews, which we play out on the piano. But we also have a boss – and that is the composer and his masterpiece!« say Yaara Tal and Andreas Groethuysen, who form one of the world’s most successful piano duos of our time.
They have been playing together for over 40 years and are constantly discovering new repertoire. Mozart’s works are a constant feature of their repertoire, and their complete recording of Mozart’s works has been highly acclaimed. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wrote his only piano concerto for two instruments for his sister “Nannerl”, who was just as talented on the keyboard as he was himself. If only the siblings had had the opportunity back then to bounce musical ideas off one another, just as the piano duo Tal & Groethuysen—who are as closely connected on stage as they are in private—do, and to devote themselves to this repertoire with spontaneity and great joy in playing.
Two other accomplished musicians from Haydn’s Esterházy Orchestra served as the inspiration for his E-flat major Symphony, which features a duet for violin and cello in the Adagio. To mark the end of the season, the Seventh, the »Symphony par excellence« – as music philosopher Theodor W. Adorno described it – by the celebrated Beethoven will be performed, music as an expression of pure joie de vivre.
