Alongside the story of Jesus' birth, it is probably the most frequently told literary subject of the Advent season: Charles Dickens' »A Christmas Carol«. The socially critical tale of the old miser Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by four ghosts on Christmas Eve and rediscovers his humanity through them, is a classic. There is no theatre that has not staged this work several times. 

First published in 1843, this story seems timeless and relevant. Especially in an age of egocentricity, Charles Dickens' work emphasises the value of charity and empathy towards one another. And in Samuel Finzi and Herbert Knaup's interpretation, the story takes on an incredible vitality, despite its moral undertones.
