Liebeserklärung – Măcelaru & Mahlers Fünfte

The »Adagietto« from Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony is ethereal, heavenly music. It is said to have been a declaration of love to his young wife Alma. The symphony premiered in 1904 at the Gürzenich in Cologne. Mahler's work ranges from energetic marching episodes to Viennese sounds to a exuberant dancing finale. It is a dramatic symphony that is perfectly suited to Cristian Macelaru and the WDR Symphony Orchestra. In addition, there are two works for cello and orchestra by Peter Tchaikovsky, including the famous »Rococo Variations,« which are imbued with Slavic romanticism.
