International ACHT BRÜCKEN Composition Competition

For the tenth time, ACHT BRÜCKEN | Music for Cologne presents a competition for young composers – stipulating works for two keyboard instruments and electronics in its 2022 edition. The three best submissions will be performed publicly, and traditionally, the jury determines their ranking immediately after the performance, while the finalist pieces are fresh in their ears. The participants, however, are already winners before – not only receiving one of three cash prizes and the image-boosting CV entry, but most importantly, the performance by high-ranking performers recorded by the WDR. In this case, the performers are Paulo Álvares, a professor of piano in Cologne specialized in contemporary music and improvisation, the Canadian pianist Claudia Chan, who also serves on the competition’s jury, and sound director Simon Spillner.
