Beethoven in Motion: Igor Levit takes a broad view

Igor Levit is one of the most interesting, versatile, well-known and opinionated musicians of our time. He does not shy away from even the most challenging tasks. These include Ludwig van Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas.

In the 2026/27 season, Igor Levit will perform all of Beethoven's piano sonatas in various concert halls in North Rhine-Westphalia, in Düsseldorf, Dortmund, Essen and Cologne. For his performance at the Cologne Philharmonic Hall, he has selected five works that span from the early Beethoven, who caused a sensation as a pianist in Vienna, to the threshold of his late works, in which the composer repeatedly explored new boundaries. Igor Levit is undoubtedly one of the leading Beethoven interpreters of our time.

The joint project of Philharmonie Essen, Kölner Philharmonie, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, and Heinersdorff Konzerte is under the patronage of Ina Brandes, Minister of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
