Discontinued Reality

Tiago Matos | Remix Ensemble Casa da Música | Worten Digitópia | Peter Rundel: Adams | Deutsch | Goebbels | Silva
Music and reality, visual impressions and their acoustic counterparts – these are explored in the four works on the programmes of the Portuguese ensembles Remix and Ruído Vermelho. Igor C. Silva’s You should be blind to watch TV can be read as a composed critique of the consumerist world of television. Luis Antunes Pena, on the other hand, deals with the conditions of a concert situation on several levels in Das Gedächtnis Gebrauchsanweisung (Memory An Instruction Manual): acoustic memories interact with the here and now, images filmed live within the hall interact with electronic and conventionally-produced sounds. Heiner Goebbels’ La Jalousie offers a kind of soundtrack to the eponymous novel by Alain Robbe-Grillet. And Bernd Richard Deutsch’s Dr. Futurity traces the footsteps of the science-fiction pioneer Philip K. Dick, conjuring up images of interplanetary travel and fantastical monsters before our inner eye.
