Antoine Tamestit | Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks | Sir Simon Rattle

Beethoven | Filidei
A conductor (Sir Simon Rattle) leads an orchestra with expressive gestures. He wears a black shirt and appears focused.

Virtuoso, witty, lively – music between revolution and fantasy

Attitude and humour are the hallmarks of the ever-young Sir Simon Rattle. The energetic maestro is now head of the renowned Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, with which he unwaveringly rekindles the fire of the old and enthusiastically explores the new.

Sir Simon explores the new together with the brilliant violist Antoine Tamestit: in Francesco Filidei's viola concerto, the two travel through imaginary gardens and let the birds chirp. ‘A magical piece,’ says the celebrated soloist, ‘so virtuosic, but also so funny.’ The old proves to be highly topical: Beethoven's Promethean ‘Eroica’ echoes the sounds of the French Revolution and evokes its original ideals: liberty, equality, fraternity.
