Jazz & Global Music
Rhythm, sound and new horizons

Pulsating jazz and global sounds with big bands, soloists and musical poets
»Don’t call me a jazz musician, please!« Max Roach did not want his music to be reduced to »jazz«. For the legendary bebop drummer, the term was too narrow, too historically burdened and unsuitable for the diversity of his ensemble M’BOOM, which combined salsa, African and European influences.
Today, »Jazz & Global Music« demonstrates the full scope of musical freedom: big-band jazz led by Bob Mintzer and Vince Mendoza, songwriting by Samora Pinderhughes, radical fado interpretations by Carminho, and local highlights such as Martin Bechler from Fortuna Ehrenfeld. Improvisation, diversity and top international artists characterise the programme.
