Community Choir Concert Project 2026

Is your choir looking for a special musical experience with a performance at the Cologne Philharmonie and eager to expand its repertoire? Our choir exchange project is entering its third round: eight Cologne choirs are invited to create a diverse concert program under the artistic direction of Hayat Chaoui, which will be performed at the Open Philharmonie on October 3, 2026.

This year’s project focuses on the theme of connection—as a vibrant and present togetherness, as a sonic coming-into-relation, and as something that resonates beyond the moment. The element of water also plays an inspiring role: as a symbol of flow, movement, interconnectedness, and harmony. In this way, a program emerges that makes connections audible—between choirs, cultures, and individual voices.

What makes the project special: in so-called choir partnerships (tandems), you will rehearse a tandem piece together with a partner choir (possibly also in the language of that choir’s cultural background). In addition, you are invited to prepare your own a cappella piece that fits the thematic focus. There will also be a piece rehearsed and performed jointly by all participating choirs.

During the concert itself, the entire hall becomes a stage, as the audience will also be invited to join in singing at selected moments. Admission to the community choir concert and all other events of the Open Philharmonie on October 3, 2026 is free.
