Geist der Romantik – Beethoven & Mendelsohn

Few works begin as majestically as Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto. Pianist Alexander Melnikov is able to express his highly emotional virtuosity right from the start. Beautiful melodies and subtle nuances follow on the way to the rousing finale. Felix Mendelssohn's overture »Ruy Blas«, which opens the programme with solemn brass sounds and stormy vehemence, was also said to be »brilliantly chivalrous« at the time. Mendelssohn's atmospheric »Schottische Sinfonie« (Scottish Symphony) then takes us on a grand journey. The evening is conducted by the acclaimed Maxim Emelyanychev.
