Einführung in das Konzert

German-American Augustin Hadelich is considered one of the world's most outstanding violinists. He has long enjoyed a special friendship with the WDR Sinfonieorchester. Now they are joining forces to perform Dmitrij Schostakowitsch's First Violin Concerto – a work brimming with gripping emotion, ranging from deep pain to grotesque humour and feverish energy. Conducting is Dima Slobodeniouk, who brings two magnificent orchestral works by Jean Sibelius from his adopted home of Finland: the fairy-tale tone poem Pohjola's Daughter opens the concert, before the Second Symphony closes with a radiant finale.
