A full hour of programming, without intermission, without prelude or postlude, free of all the trappings – that's exactly what »Philharmonie.7« offers, a concert format that proved itself and established itself right from its premiere last season. First-class music from 7 p.m. – your evening isn't completely planned out, but between the anticipation and the lingering excitement, it's definitely given a clear focus. In the coming season, four concerts in this format will be combined into their own subscription series.
The guest performance by Frankfurt's Ensemble Modern with Steve Reich's »Music for 18 Musicians«, a classic of new music, certainly deserves special attention. Further highlights are guaranteed by the marimba virtuosos of the Wave Quartet, including a spectacular arrangement of Mussorgsky's popular work »Bilder einer Ausstellung« (Pictures at an Exhibition), and the Bundesjugendjazzorchester conducted by Jonathan Stockhammer. The small concert series gets off to a brilliant start with »Mozart y Mambo«, in which Sarah Willis, horn player with the Berliner Philharmoniker, and the Havana Lyceum Orchestra will fuse the dance-like verve of Mozart's music with traditional Cuban rhythms.
