»Der Ring des Nibelungen« – Richard Wagner's opera tetralogy »Das Rheingold», »Die Walküre«, »Siegfried« and »Götterdämmerung« – is one of the heavyweights of opera history. In the latest episode of the Cologne Philharmonic Hall podcast, Christoph Vratz introduces the first part of the stage festival with numerous audio examples. Looking at the present day, he shows that Wagner's magnum opus has lost none of its relevance with its exciting themes of law and justice, self-determination and fate.
At the Kölner Philharmonie, Concerto Köln and the Dresden Festival Orchestra, conducted by Kent Nagano, will perform the Ring in a historically informed manner as part of the Wagner Interpretations project. The first part, Das Rheingold, the eve of the stage festival Der Ring des Nibelungen, can be experienced on 18 August 2023.
