2019 nahm das Ensemble Modern auf Einladung des Goethe-Instituts am »AfriCourage Festival« in Gambia teil, wo es gemeinsam mit Musikern aus dem Senegal auftrat. Daraus entstand das Liberation Orchestra of Inverted Traditions, in dem sich verschiedene Musikkulturen und Aufführungstraditionen auf Augenhöhe treffen.
