Spontaneous, lively and full of joy: this is how the Parisian chamber orchestra Le Concert de la Loge can be described. Mozart’s famous ‘Eine kleine Nachtmusik’ is in good hands here: so playful, so exuberant and entirely in the spirit of Amadeus! Julien Chauvin conducts the ensemble from the violin, as was customary in Haydn and Mozart’s day.

Lucie Horsch has long been regarded as a pop star in the world of the recorder – and far beyond. She has already won over countless new fans for her instrument. Alongside the great masters Vivaldi and Bach, the award-winning young recorder player presents royal wedding music from Sweden in concert. She loves to combine well-known works with rarely performed gems. Lucie Horsch has complete faith in the musicians of the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century; they work together regularly and create a virtuoso spectacle on stage.

Igor Stravinsky’s violin concerto, which playfully pays homage to Baroque motifs, demands both poetry and power; it is performed this evening by the sensitively compelling Bomsori Kim with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, conducted by Paavo Järvi. Afterwards, the spirited Bremen musicians and their conductor (ever precise and soulful) turn their attention to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony. Schumann called it the ‘Greek-like slender one’. Yet this slenderness harbours a powerful punch! Within its luminous utopia lies the restless spirit of revolt.
