Composer, theatre director and filmmaker: Dutchman Michel van der Aa talks to Katherina Knees about his career, his parents' influence on his interest in musical theatre, his compositional process and future projects in which he will once again be working with VR.
As the owner of his own production company, he is bound by his own schedules, which extend up to four years into the future. Using the example of his musical theatre work »The Book of Water«, which will have its German premiere at the Kölner Philharmonie on 21 April, he illustrates the intertwining of subject matter, performers, images and music.
